A Week In The Life Of A Personal Trainer…

A few people have asked me of late, “It must be cool being a self-employed Personal Trainer? Also, you get paid to shout at people lots and it must be really satisfying helping people change their lives”.

It’s true, it can be pretty cool… It’s lots of hard work and long unsociable hours. It can be very rewarding for sure, but only when clients put the effort in their end. I merely provide the tools and advice to do the job… When the tools and advice are ignored it becomes less rewarding and more frustrating. I’ll admit, I do enjoy the shouting part and I am very lucky to have a job I thoroughly enjoy and I hope my passion shines through to all those who use my services.

Off the back of these conversations I decided last week that I’d document my average working week…

Sunday:

Lay in day! Sunday is a day where I get to take it a little easier and no real work as such.

Wake up at 0800 and get one of the kids I own to bring me coffee in Bed.

0900- Get out of bed, have breakfast and then head off to meet the Team Delta Charlie running group and the Radio Plymouth Running Team

1030- 10k team run

1300- Return home after shopping and have lunch

1400-Cook roast dinner

1630/1700- sit down for dinner as a family

1830-Get battered on FIFA by my 8 year old son!

1930- get into my dairy to start planning the week and firm times up for Monday and Tuesday sessions with clients. Follow up all the texts/Facebook messages from the day. Sunday is the busiest day for leads-I guess people on Sunday realise they need to make changes after spending a weekend binge eating!

2230-bed

Monday:

0630-1st Client

0730-Breakfast and touch base with my clients via text/email/app/FB

0830-Drop off kids to school and wife to work

0915-1:1 PT

1030- 1:1 PT

1130- Lunch and respond to any messages and check progress/food logs of clients

1200- Leave for school session

1430-finish at school and go and pick kids up from their school

1540-1:1 client cancelled so I cram in a session of my own in the gym

1630- Go to pick wife up from work

1730-Dinner

1830-1:1 PT

1930- 1:1 PT

2030-Admin and preparing Boot Camp sessions for the following day

2300- Bed

Tuesday

0530-up and out for Boot camp on the park

0730- Breakfast and touch base with my clients via text/email/app/FB

0830-Drop off kids to school and wife to work

0915-1:1 PT cancelled by Client so I do 10K run

1030- 1:1 PT

1130- Lunch and respond to any messages and check progress/food logs of clients

1200- Leave for school session

1430-finish at school and go and pick kids up from their school

1545- 1:1 PT

1630- Go to pick wife up from work

1730-Dinner

1800-Leave for evening Boot camp session

1930-1:1 PT

2045- Admin/ Pick up all the trolling from my Facebook groups after the Boot Camp Beastings and hurl some abuse back

2330-Bed

Lay in! 0700 up for Breakfast and touch base with my clients via text/email/app/FB

0830-Drop off kids to school and wife to work

0915-1:1 PT

1030- 1:1 PT

1130- Lunch while driving to go and meet Client for consultation at local coffee shop

1230- Leave for school session

1430-finish at school and go to next school for after school club

1630-Finish at school and head home for dinner and catch up on any admin/messages

1830- My own Gym session

1930-1:1 PT

2045- Admin/ Plan Thursday Boot camp sessions

2330-Bed

Thursday-Almost a copy and paste of Tuesday

0530-up and out for Boot camp on the park

0730- Breakfast and touch base with my clients via text/email/app/FB

0830-Drop off kids to school and wife to work

0915-1:1 PT

1030- 1:1 PT

1130- My own Gym Session

1230- Leave for school session and eat on the drive there

1430-finish at school and go and pick kids up from their school

1545- 1:1 PT

1630- Go to pick wife up from work

1730-Dinner

1815-Leave for evening Boot camp session

1930-1:1 PT

2045- Admin/ Pick up all the trolling from my Facebook groups after the Boot Camp Beastings and hurl some abuse back. Plan Friday full day session at school

2330-Bed

Friday

Lay in again! 0700 up

0830-Drop off kids to school and wife to work then head to School

0930-Full day of 8 boot camps for years 3-6 at school

1500-head to pick kids up from school

1530-1:1 PT

1645-Go to pick wife up and Take Charlie to Football training. Catch up on days admin while Charlie Playing football

1900- 1:1 PT

2000- Dinner

2100-admin and Plan Saturday Morning Boot camp

2300- Bed

Saturday. I take it a little easier on a Saturday

Lay in again (I have it sooo easy) 0800-Up and out to the park for Boot camp

0930-Football match cancelled so head home for breakfast

1100- Go for a 4k run with Lucie

1400- Lunch, Admin, blogging, Facebook abuse, schedule some Facebook ads for the week and touch base with clients about food etc etc.

1830-Dinner

0001-Bed!

Obviously, in between all of the above I find time for little bits of Facebooking, texting clients, following up leads and generally being alive. It’s a busy job! I love every aspect of it… However, this year sees me turn 36… can I continue at this pace?…?…?… My legs are  often in bits from spending a full day demonstrating Squats and then I may have to run with a client. I think I only have another 35 years at this level, tops!
